East Municipal Police Headquarters
65 de Infantería Avenue, Río Piedras, Puerto Rico
San Juan Municipal Government
1998 - 2000
The project's program required the building to be instrumental in creating a new image for the San Juan Municipal Police as modern, efficient and accesible department towards the communities. Additional to providing security to citizens, the Municipal Police would be in charge of coordinating all the municipal recovery efforts in case of a natural disaster. The East Municipal Police Headquarters was built as command center for the East Precinct of San Juan Municipality.
The 7,000 square foot building, with only one level, was built completely in cast-in-place reinforced concrete. It has three main horizontal volumes that contain all program requirements, grouping the spaces in three main parameters: common areas, private areas and service areas. Each volume reflects its function on its exterior as well as in its interior.
